Many people don’t understand how a podiatrist can help them. Dr Anthony Weinert, a Michigan Podiatrist with practice locations in Warren and Troy, Michigan explains how a podiatrist can help you. There are actually a number of ways that are less common than just experiencing pain. Let’s have a look at some of those.

Increasing Pain

When we are in pain we tend to be more interested in seeing a doctor, but we still tend to put the visit to the doctor off. If you have pain that increases when you are active, you need to see a doctor now. Pain that gets worse with activity may be caused by stress fracture so a visit to the podiatrist should be a priority to find out a possible cause for the discomfort.

Pain that Lasts for More than 24 Hours

If pain comes on suddenly and you aren’t sure what the cause is, you need to see your podiatrist. This is even more important if you have had surgery very recently. Don’t be afraid to follow up on pain – there can be many causes such as infection, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), dressing that’s too tight, and more. There are treatments for pain after surgery as well as pain from another cause.

Foot Pain Caused by Elevating Your Leg

If you have foot pain when you lie down in bed and the pain diminishes if you dangle your foot, this indicates there could a decrease in blood flow, or you could have peripheral artery disease. Your podiatrist will determine what’s going on. If you have a problem with blood flow, you will be seeing other doctors as well to correct the problem.

Arch is Flat on One Foot

If you notice that you have one foot that appears flatter than the other this could be a sign that you have a tendon that is ruptured or not functioning correctly. A tendon that’s not working right can cause your bones to misalign and that can lead to arthritis. This is why you should see your podiatrist so he can correct the problem.
